HomeOwners Assistance

Des Moines Habitat for Humanity

Aging Resources of Central Iowa

The Neighborhood Finance Corporation (www.neighborhoodfinance.org) offers "possible" closing cost assistance of up to $2,000 or $2,500. They also have a $10,000 forgiveable loan for home improvements.

The Iowa Finance Authority (www.iowafinanceauthority.gov) has two downpayment assitance programs - FirstHome Plus and Homes for Iowans.
Home, Inc. also has downpayment assistance available to eligible borrowers. I couldn't find program details, but this is mentioned on this page - http://www.homeincdsm.org/forsale/127/1600_capitol_ave__des_moines.aspx.

I also saw they have a "Readiness Assessment and Pre-Purchase Counseling" program. The details are found at http://www.homeincdsm.org/homeownership/33/readiness_assessment_and_pre_purchase_counseling.aspx.
